Pollo Del General Tso (general Tso's Chicken)
Pollo del General Tso, or General Tso's Chicken, is a popular dish in Latin American Chinese cuisine. This recipe combines the flavors of Chinese and Latin American cooking to create a delicious and savory dish.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, toss the chicken pieces with the cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken pieces and cook until golden and crispy, about 5-6 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the chicken is heated through and the sauce has thickened.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
