Pollo General Tso Cubano, also known as Cuban General Tso's Chicken, is a fusion dish that combines the flavors of Chinese and Caribbean cuisine. This dish features crispy chicken coated in a sweet and tangy sauce with a hint of spice, creating a delicious and unique flavor profile.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken pieces and cook until golden and crispy, about 5-6 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add garlic and red bell pepper. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the pepper is slightly softened.
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, orange juice, brown sugar, rice vinegar, tomato paste, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the garlic and bell pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat the chicken through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the Pollo General Tso Cubano over steamed rice or with fried plantains.
