Ingredients
- 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press half of the flour mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish to form the bottom crust.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
- Crumble the remaining flour mixture over the apples to form the top crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Allow the cake to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
