Pork In Tomato Sauce (satisfying Ibihaza)
Pork in Tomato Sauce, known as Satisfying Ibihaza in Burundian Cuisine, is a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for a comforting meal. The combination of tender pork and flavorful tomato sauce makes this dish a favorite among many households in Burundi.
Ingredients
- 1 kg pork, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the pork cubes and cook until browned on all sides, then remove from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
- Stir in the paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper, and cook for another minute.
- Return the pork to the pot and add the tomato sauce and water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour or until the pork is tender.
- Serve the pork in tomato sauce hot with your choice of side dishes.
