Pork Pie Perfection
Pork Pie Perfection is a classic British dish that is perfect for a cozy night in or a picnic in the countryside. This savory pie is filled with seasoned pork and encased in a golden, flaky pastry crust, making it a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 500g pork mince
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried sage
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 500g ready-made shortcrust pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the pork mince, onion, garlic, thyme, sage, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Roll out two-thirds of the pastry on a floured surface and use it to line a 9-inch pie dish.
- Spoon the pork mixture into the pastry-lined dish, pressing it down gently.
- Roll out the remaining pastry and place it over the pie filling. Trim any excess pastry and crimp the edges to seal.
- Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg to create a golden glaze.
- Make a few small slits in the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 1 hour, or until the pastry is golden and the filling is cooked through.
- Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
