Pork Pie Perfection

Pork Pie Perfection is a classic British dish that is perfect for a cozy night in or a picnic in the countryside. This savory pie is filled with seasoned pork and encased in a golden, flaky pastry crust, making it a delicious and satisfying meal.

Pork Pie Perfection

Ingredients

  • 500g pork mince
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 500g ready-made shortcrust pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the pork mince, onion, garlic, thyme, sage, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Roll out two-thirds of the pastry on a floured surface and use it to line a 9-inch pie dish.
  3. Spoon the pork mixture into the pastry-lined dish, pressing it down gently.
  4. Roll out the remaining pastry and place it over the pie filling. Trim any excess pastry and crimp the edges to seal.
  5. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg to create a golden glaze.
  6. Make a few small slits in the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 1 hour, or until the pastry is golden and the filling is cooked through.
  8. Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
