Poronpaisti (reindeer Meatloaf)
Poronpaisti, or Reindeer Meatloaf, is a traditional dish from the Yamal Cuisine of the Nenets people in Northern Russia. This hearty and flavorful meatloaf is a staple in the region and is often enjoyed during festive occasions and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 500g ground reindeer meat
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground reindeer meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, black pepper, thyme, and allspice. Mix until well combined.
- Form the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a large pot.
- Cover the pot and cook the meatloaf over low heat for 2 hours, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Once cooked, remove the meatloaf from the pot and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve the reindeer meatloaf with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!
