Porostroganoff (reindeer Stroganoff)
Porostroganoff, also known as Reindeer Stroganoff, is a traditional dish from the Sami cuisine, made with tender reindeer meat and a creamy sauce. This hearty and flavorful dish is perfect for a cozy winter meal.
Ingredients
- 500g reindeer meat, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 250g mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef or reindeer broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced reindeer meat and cook until browned. Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
- Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir to combine.
- Pour in the broth and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Return the cooked reindeer meat to the skillet and stir in the sour cream. Season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer for a few more minutes until the meat is heated through and the flavors are well combined.
- Serve the porostroganoff hot, accompanied by mashed potatoes or lingonberry sauce.
