Porotacot (reindeer Tacos)
Porotacot, or Reindeer Tacos, is a traditional dish from the Sami people, the indigenous inhabitants of Sápmi, which encompasses parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. This unique recipe combines the flavors of tender reindeer meat with traditional taco seasonings, creating a delicious fusion of Sami and Mexican cuisines.
Ingredients
- 1 lb reindeer meat, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 small flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Add the reindeer meat and cook until browned, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the onion, garlic, and bell pepper until softened.
- Return the reindeer meat to the skillet and add the cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring to combine all the flavors.
- Warm the flour tortillas in a separate skillet or in the oven.
- Assemble the tacos by placing a spoonful of the reindeer mixture onto each tortilla, then topping with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and cilantro.
- Serve the Porotacot (Reindeer Tacos) immediately and enjoy!
