Potato Cutlets (punjabi Aloo Tikki)

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • Oil for shallow frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chili, cumin seeds, garam masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder, chopped coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform mixture.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties or cutlets.
  3. Spread the bread crumbs on a plate and coat each cutlet with the bread crumbs, ensuring an even coating on all sides.
  4. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the cutlets until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  5. Once done, remove the cutlets from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve the hot and crispy potato cutlets with mint chutney or tamarind chutney.
