Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and grated
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup sheep cheese (bryndza) or feta cheese
- 1/2 cup bacon, diced (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the grated potatoes, flour, egg, water, salt, and pepper to form a dough.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Using a spaetzle maker or a colander with large holes, press the dough into the boiling water to form small dumplings.
- Cook the dumplings for 3-4 minutes or until they float to the surface, then remove them with a slotted spoon and drain.
- In a separate pan, melt the sheep cheese over low heat, stirring constantly. If using, sauté the bacon until crispy and add it to the cheese sauce.
- Toss the cooked dumplings in the sheep cheese sauce until well coated.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
