Potato Gratin (gromperenzgratin)
Potato Gratin, also known as Gromperenzgratin, is a classic Luxembourgian dish that features layers of thinly sliced potatoes baked in a creamy, cheesy sauce. This comforting and hearty dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special holiday meal.
Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup butter, diced
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix the grated Gruyère cheese, heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour half of the cheese and cream mixture over the potatoes.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese mixture. Dot the top with diced butter.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
