Potato Patties (aloo Tikki)

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup green peas, boiled
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil for shallow frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, bread crumbs, green peas, green chilies, ginger, cumin seeds, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform mixture.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the patties until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  4. Remove the patties from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  5. Serve the potato patties hot with mint chutney or tamarind chutney.
