Potato Patties (aloo Tikki)
Potato Patties, also known as Aloo Tikki, are a popular Jain Cuisine snack made with boiled potatoes and a blend of aromatic spices. These crispy and flavorful patties are perfect for serving as an appetizer or as a tea-time snack.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup green peas, boiled
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil for shallow frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, bread crumbs, green peas, green chilies, ginger, cumin seeds, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform mixture.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the patties until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides.
- Remove the patties from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve the potato patties hot with mint chutney or tamarind chutney.
