Potato Peas (aloo Matar)

Ingredients

  • 2 large potatoes, diced
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger and garlic paste, and sauté for a minute.
  3. Stir in the tomato puree and cook until the ghee separates from the masala.
  4. Add the turmeric, red chili, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add the diced potatoes and green peas. Mix well, cover the pan, and cook until the potatoes are tender.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
