Potato Pie (pastel De Papas)
Potato Pie, known as Pastel de Papas in Uruguay, is a classic comfort food dish that combines layers of creamy mashed potatoes with savory ground beef and a hint of spices. This hearty and satisfying dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with the milk and butter until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add the ground beef, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned.
- Spread half of the mashed potatoes in the bottom of a greased baking dish. Top with the cooked beef mixture, then the remaining mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
