Potato Stuffed Flatbread (aloo Paratha)
Aloo Paratha is a popular Punjabi stuffed flatbread made with a flavorful potato filling. It's a delicious and satisfying dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup water
- 4 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
- Ghee or oil for cooking
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and water to make a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix the mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chilies, cumin seeds, garam masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, and fresh coriander leaves to make the filling.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and roll each ball into a small circle. Place a portion of the potato filling in the center and seal the edges to form a stuffed ball.
- Flatten the stuffed ball and roll it out into a circle, dusting with flour as needed.
- Heat a griddle or non-stick pan over medium heat and cook the rolled out flatbread, brushing with ghee or oil until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and filling to make the rest of the parathas.
- Serve hot with yogurt, pickles, or chutney.
