Prawn fritters, also known as Prawn Koliwada, are a popular appetizer in Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine. These crispy and flavorful fritters are perfect for serving at parties or as a teatime snack.

Prawn Fritters (prawn Koliwada)

Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup rice flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix chickpea flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, rice flour, and salt.
  2. Add a little water at a time to make a thick batter.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
  4. Dip each prawn into the batter and carefully drop it into the hot oil.
  5. Fry until the prawns are golden and crispy.
  6. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
