Prawn Ghee Roast is a classic dish from the Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine, known for its rich and spicy flavors. This dish is a perfect blend of succulent prawns and aromatic spices, cooked in ghee to perfection.

Prawn Ghee Roast

Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 6-8 dried red chilies
  • 1 inch ginger, chopped
  • 6-8 garlic cloves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the prawns with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan and roast the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dried red chilies, ginger, and garlic until fragrant. Let it cool and grind to a fine paste.
  3. Heat the remaining ghee in a pan and add the ground paste. Sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Add the marinated prawns, tamarind paste, and red chili powder. Cook until the prawns are done and the masala coats the prawns well.
  5. Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
