Prawn Tamarind Stew (Royyala Pulusu) is a traditional Andhra dish known for its tangy and spicy flavors. This delicious stew is made with fresh prawns, tamarind, and a blend of aromatic spices, making it a perfect dish for seafood lovers.
Ingredients
- 500g fresh prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 1 lemon-sized tamarind ball
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Soak the tamarind in warm water and extract the juice.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
- Add the tamarind juice, salt, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil.
- Add the cleaned prawns and cook for 5-7 minutes until they are cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and remove from heat.
