Ingredients

  • 500g fresh prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 1 lemon-sized tamarind ball
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soak the tamarind in warm water and extract the juice.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
  6. Add the tamarind juice, salt, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil.
  7. Add the cleaned prawns and cook for 5-7 minutes until they are cooked through.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and remove from heat.
