Prawns in Banana Leaf, also known as Chemmeen Kizhi, is a traditional Kerala dish that is bursting with flavors. The prawns are marinated in a blend of aromatic spices, wrapped in banana leaves, and then cooked to perfection. Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 2 tbsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 4 banana leaves, cut into squares
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the prawns with red chili powder, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, onion, curry leaves, and salt. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
- Place a banana leaf square on a flat surface. Place a portion of the marinated prawns in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the banana leaf to form a packet and secure the edges with toothpicks.
- Heat a pan and place the banana leaf packets on it. Cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes on each side.
- Once cooked, remove the toothpicks and serve the prawns in banana leaf hot with steamed rice.
