Prawns Mango Curry (chemeen Manga Curry)
Prawns Mango Curry, also known as Chemeen Manga Curry, is a traditional dish from the coastal state of Kerala in South India. This flavorful curry combines the sweetness of ripe mangoes with the succulent taste of prawns, creating a delightful and aromatic dish that is perfect for a special occasion or a family meal.
Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 3-4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
Instructions
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.
- Add chopped onions, green chili, curry leaves, ginger, and garlic. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Sauté for a minute.
- Add diced mangoes and cook until they soften.
- Add cleaned prawns and cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour coconut milk and simmer for a few minutes until the curry thickens.
- Adjust the seasoning with salt and remove from heat.
