Pryanik Pleasure (Пряники)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the honey, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  10. Allow the pryaniki to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
