Puffed Rice With Spicy Mutton (mudhi Mansa)

Ingredients

  • 500g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups puffed rice (mudhi)
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add mutton pieces, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the mutton is browned.
  4. Pour in the tomato puree, green chilies, and curry leaves. Cook until the oil separates.
  5. Add 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and let the mutton cook until tender.
  6. Once the mutton is cooked, add the puffed rice and mix well. Cook for a few more minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
