Punjabi Samosa (Deep-fried Savory Pastry)
Samosa is a popular Punjabi savory pastry filled with spiced potatoes, peas, and sometimes meat, then deep-fried to crispy perfection. It is a delicious and satisfying snack or appetizer that is enjoyed by many.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 large potato, boiled and diced
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep-frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the flour and 1/4 cup oil. Add water gradually and knead into a firm dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the diced potatoes, green peas, ginger, garam masala, coriander powder, chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes, then let the filling cool.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each into a circle. Cut each circle in half to form semi-circles.
- Take one semi-circle, form a cone, and fill it with the potato mixture. Seal the edges using water.
- Heat oil in a deep pan and deep-fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
