Punjene Paprike, or Montenegrin Style Stuffed Bell Peppers, is a traditional dish that is popular in Montenegro. It is a flavorful and hearty meal that is perfect for a family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup grated cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a large bowl, mix the cooked rice, ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, diced tomatoes, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the rice and meat mixture.
- Place the stuffed peppers in a pot and pour water over them until they are halfway submerged.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 1 hour, or until the peppers are tender.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese over the peppers and cook for an additional 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
