Puri (fluffy Puri)
Puri is a popular Indian deep-fried bread that is soft, fluffy, and perfect for soaking up delicious curries and chutneys.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
- 3/4 cup warm water
- Oil for deep-frying
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
- Add the ghee and mix it into the flour using your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Slowly add the warm water and knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a circle about 4 inches in diameter.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide in a puri and gently press it with a slotted spoon. This will help the puri to puff up. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove the puri from the oil and place it on a paper towel to drain any excess oil. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
