Qaspeq (berry-stuffed Fry Bread)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add water and knead the dough until smooth. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in another bowl, mix the berries and sugar. Set aside.
  3. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Flatten each part into a circle, place a spoonful of the berry mixture in the center, and fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges to seal.
  4. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Fry the stuffed dough until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve the qaspeq warm and enjoy!
