Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, cubed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup okra, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  2. Add the beef cubes to the pot and brown on all sides.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  5. Add the okra to the pot and cook for an additional 15 minutes, or until the okra is tender.
  6. Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve the Qeema Bamia hot with rice or bread.
