Qeema Bamia (iraqi Beef Stew)
Qeema Bamia is a traditional Iraqi beef stew that combines tender beef with okra in a rich and flavorful tomato-based sauce. This hearty dish is perfect for a comforting family meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef, cubed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup okra, trimmed and halved
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Add the beef cubes to the pot and brown on all sides.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Add the okra to the pot and cook for an additional 15 minutes, or until the okra is tender.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve the Qeema Bamia hot with rice or bread.
