Qeema Bamia is a traditional Iraqi dish that combines tender lamb with flavorful okra in a rich and aromatic curry. This dish is a staple in Iraqi cuisine and is perfect for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb, cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 1 cup water
- 1 lb okra, trimmed and halved
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until softened.
- Add the garlic, lamb, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and cayenne pepper. Cook until the lamb is browned.
- Pour in the tomato puree and water. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.
- Add the okra to the pot and cook for an additional 15 minutes, or until the okra is tender.
- Serve the Qeema Bamia hot with rice or bread.
