Qeema Bamia (iraqi Lamb And Okra Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lamb, cubed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 lb okra, trimmed and halved
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until softened.
  2. Add the garlic, lamb, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and cayenne pepper. Cook until the lamb is browned.
  3. Pour in the tomato puree and water. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.
  4. Add the okra to the pot and cook for an additional 15 minutes, or until the okra is tender.
  5. Serve the Qeema Bamia hot with rice or bread.
