Qeema Curry (iraqi Lamb Kofta Curry)
Qeema Curry, also known as Iraqi Lamb Kofta Curry, is a flavorful and aromatic dish that is popular in Iraqi cuisine. This dish features spiced lamb meatballs cooked in a rich and fragrant curry sauce, perfect for serving with rice or bread.
Ingredients
- 500g ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground lamb, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, turmeric, cayenne pepper, cilantro, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Form the mixture into small meatballs.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the diced tomatoes, broth, and coconut milk. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve the Qeema Curry hot with rice or bread.
