Qeema (iraqi Lamb Stew)
Qeema is a traditional Iraqi lamb stew that is rich in flavor and spices. It is a comforting and hearty dish that is perfect for a cozy family meal or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 2 cups beef or lamb broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the ground lamb over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until the onion is soft.
- Stir in the ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the tomato paste and broth, and season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer the stew over low heat for 1.5-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melded and the stew has thickened.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed, and serve the Qeema hot, garnished with chopped cilantro.
