Quetta Sheermal (کوئٹہ شیرمل)
Quetta Sheermal is a traditional sweet bread from the Muhajir Cuisine, known for its rich flavor and soft texture. This recipe is a perfect blend of saffron, milk, and sugar, making it a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads
- 1/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 teaspoon yeast
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- In a small bowl, soak saffron threads in warm milk for 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the saffron-infused milk, ghee, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Mix well to form a dough.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a round ball.
- Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and gently flatten them into discs.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the sheermals are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
