Rihaakuru Mas (spicy Fish Curry)
Rihaakuru Mas is a traditional Maldivian fish curry that is rich, spicy, and bursting with flavors. It's a popular dish in the Maldives and is often served with steamed rice or roshi (flatbread).
Ingredients
- 500g fish fillets, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 cup coconut milk
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the diced tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
- Stir in the turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook for 2 minutes to release the flavors.
- Add the fish cubes and gently mix with the spice mixture.
- Pour in the coconut milk and season with salt. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the curry has thickened.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
