Risa Bai Rasam (spiced Tomato Soup)

Ingredients

  • 4 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or oil

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee or oil in a pot and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, black pepper, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft.
  4. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
