Risa Bai (spiced Tomato Chutney)
Risa Bai is a traditional Tripuri spiced tomato chutney that is bursting with flavors. It is a perfect accompaniment to your meals, adding a tangy and spicy kick to your palate.
Ingredients
- 6 ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add grated ginger, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and water. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
- Mash the tomatoes with the back of a spoon to get a chunky consistency. Cook for another 5 minutes until the chutney thickens.
- Remove from heat and let it cool. Risa Bai is ready to be served.
