Riz Gras, also known as Malian Style Fried Rice, is a flavorful and aromatic dish that is a staple in Malian cuisine. This dish is made with a unique blend of spices and ingredients that give it a distinct taste and texture.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of long-grain white rice
- 4 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 carrots, grated
- 1 cup of green peas
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, bring the water to a boil and add the rice. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until the rice is tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
- Add the tomatoes, bell pepper, carrots, and green peas to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
- Stir in the cooked rice, curry powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and serve the Riz Gras hot.
