Roasted Pork with Dumplings and Sauerkraut (Pečené bravčové s haluškami a kapustou)
This traditional Slovak dish combines tender roasted pork with hearty dumplings and tangy sauerkraut for a satisfying meal that's perfect for a cozy family dinner or special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg pork shoulder
- 500g halušky (dumplings)
- 500g sauerkraut
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Season the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, and caraway seeds.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large ovenproof pot over medium-high heat. Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until golden brown.
- Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot, and cook until softened.
- Spread the sauerkraut around the pork shoulder in the pot.
- Cover the pot and transfer it to the preheated oven. Roast for 2 hours, or until the pork is tender and cooked through.
- Cook the halušky according to the package instructions.
- Serve the roasted pork with the halušky and sauerkraut. Enjoy!
