Romanian Spinach and Cheese Pie (Plăcintă cu Spanac şi Brânză)

Ingredients

  • 500g fresh spinach, chopped
  • 200g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 200g ricotta cheese
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 500g phyllo pastry sheets
  • 100g butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the chopped spinach, feta cheese, ricotta cheese, onion, eggs, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. Layer half of the phyllo pastry sheets in a greased baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  4. Spread the spinach and cheese mixture over the phyllo pastry.
  5. Layer the remaining phyllo pastry sheets on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  7. Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
