Roti John Journey
Roti John is a popular Malay street food that is essentially a Malaysian-style omelette sandwich. It is made with minced meat, onions, and eggs, and then sandwiched between a baguette or French loaf. This recipe will take you on a flavorful Roti John journey!
Ingredients
- 1 French loaf or baguette
- 250g minced meat (chicken, beef, or mutton)
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4 eggs
- 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 2 tablespoons chili sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Butter for grilling
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the minced meat, chopped onion, eggs, tomato ketchup, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Cut the French loaf or baguette into 4 equal portions and slice them open lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
- Divide the meat mixture into 4 portions and spread each portion onto the cut side of each bread piece.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add a knob of butter. Place the prepared bread into the pan, meat side down, and grill until the bottom is golden brown.
- Flip the bread over and continue grilling until the meat is cooked through and the bread is crispy.
- Remove from the pan and slice into individual portions. Serve hot.
