Royal Hyderabadi Dum Ka Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 onions, finely sliced
  • 4 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 cup mint leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup cashew nuts, ground into a paste
  • 1/2 cup fried onions
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, lemon juice, half of the chopped coriander leaves, half of the mint leaves, and salt. Let it marinate for 2 hours.
  2. Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add the sliced onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add the marinated chicken to the pan and mix well. Cook on low heat for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the cashew nut paste and fried onions. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining coriander and mint leaves on top. Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for 30-40 minutes until the chicken is tender and the flavors are well blended.
  6. Once done, serve the Royal Hyderabadi Dum Ka Chicken hot with naan or steamed rice.
