Royal Spinach And Cottage Cheese (shahi Palak Paneer)
Shahi Palak Paneer, also known as Royal Spinach and Cottage Cheese, is a classic dish from Mughlai cuisine. This rich and creamy dish is made with spinach, paneer (cottage cheese), and a blend of aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 2 cups spinach, washed and chopped
- 200g paneer (cottage cheese), cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or oil
Instructions
- Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the ghee separates from the masala.
- Stir in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
- Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted.
- Gently stir in the cubed paneer and heavy cream. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Sprinkle garam masala and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Shahi Palak Paneer is ready to be served hot with naan or rice.
