Shahi Palak Paneer, also known as Royal Spinach and Cottage Cheese, is a classic dish from Mughlai cuisine. This rich and creamy dish is made with spinach, paneer (cottage cheese), and a blend of aromatic spices.

Royal Spinach And Cottage Cheese (shahi Palak Paneer)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups spinach, washed and chopped
  • 200g paneer (cottage cheese), cubed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or oil

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the ghee separates from the masala.
  3. Stir in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted.
  5. Gently stir in the cubed paneer and heavy cream. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Shahi Palak Paneer is ready to be served hot with naan or rice.
