Ingredients
- 1 loaf of rye bread, cubed
- 1 lb Hessian sausage, casings removed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 stalks of celery, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
- Add the onion, celery, and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed rye bread, cooked sausage mixture, parsley, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the melted butter and broth over the bread mixture and toss to combine.
- Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish and cover with foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
