Rye Bread And Sausage Stuffing

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of rye bread, cubed
  • 1 lb Hessian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks of celery, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
  3. Add the onion, celery, and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cubed rye bread, cooked sausage mixture, parsley, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour the melted butter and broth over the bread mixture and toss to combine.
  6. Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish and cover with foil.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
