Ржаной хлеб (Rye Bread Revolution) is a traditional Belarusian bread that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for accompanying soups, stews, and other dishes.
Ingredients
- 3 cups rye flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the rye flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the bread for 35-40 minutes until it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let the bread cool before slicing and serving.
