Sabzi Korma (chicken And Lentil Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup lentils, rinsed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, ground turmeric, ground cumin, ground coriander, and chili powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they start to break down.
  5. Stir in the rinsed lentils and enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.
  6. Once the lentils are cooked, stir in the plain yogurt and season with salt to taste.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
