Sabzi Korma (chicken And Lentil Curry)
Sabzi Korma is a delicious Afghan curry made with chicken and lentils, cooked in a flavorful blend of spices and herbs. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a family dinner or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 cup lentils, rinsed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent.
- Add the chicken pieces to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, ground turmeric, ground cumin, ground coriander, and chili powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they start to break down.
- Stir in the rinsed lentils and enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.
- Once the lentils are cooked, stir in the plain yogurt and season with salt to taste.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
