Sachertorte Sensation
Sachertorte is a classic Austrian chocolate cake that is sure to impress any dessert lover. This rich and decadent dessert is perfect for special occasions or as a delightful treat with a cup of coffee.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 8 oz (225g) bittersweet chocolate, melted and cooled
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) apricot jam
- 6 large eggs, separated
- 1 cup (200g) confectioners' sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the melted chocolate and mix until well combined.
- Beat in the egg yolks one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gently fold in the flour until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cake is completely cool, spread the apricot jam over the top.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the confectioners' sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of hot water to make a smooth glaze. Pour the glaze over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Let the glaze set before serving. Enjoy!
