Sakha Khara (yakutian Cabbage Rolls)
Sakha Khara, also known as Yakutian Cabbage Rolls, is a traditional dish from the Sakha Republic in Russia. These hearty cabbage rolls are filled with a flavorful mixture of meat, rice, and spices, making them a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 can (14 ounces) tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes, or until they are pliable. Remove and set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll it up, tucking in the sides as you roll.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot or Dutch oven. Pour the tomato sauce and beef broth over the rolls.
- Cover the pot and cook on the stovetop over medium heat for 1 hour, or until the cabbage rolls are tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the Sakha Khara hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
