Sakha Khegai Ceviche (arctic Char Ceviche)
Sakha Khegai Ceviche, also known as Arctic Char Ceviche, is a traditional dish from the Sakha Republic in Russia. This refreshing and flavorful dish features raw Arctic char marinated in citrus juices and mixed with fresh herbs and vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Arctic char, skin removed, cut into small cubes
- 1 cup fresh lime juice
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 jalapeno, seeded and diced
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped mint
- 1 avocado, diced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large glass or ceramic bowl, combine the Arctic char, lime juice, and lemon juice. Make sure the fish is fully submerged in the citrus juices. Cover and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- After the fish is "cooked" in the citrus juices, add the red onion, jalapeno, cilantro, and mint. Gently toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Gently fold in the diced avocado. Be careful not to mash the avocado.
- Divide the ceviche into serving bowls and serve immediately.
