Sakha Tukhum Curry (yakutian Lamb Curry)
Sakha Tukhum Curry, also known as Yakutian Lamb Curry, is a traditional dish from the Sakha Republic in Russia. This hearty and flavorful curry is made with tender lamb, aromatic spices, and local ingredients, making it a beloved staple in Sakha cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 kg lamb, cut into chunks
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the diced tomatoes and cook until they soften.
- Now add the lamb chunks, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the lamb with the spices.
- Cover the pot and let the lamb cook on low heat for about 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Sprinkle garam masala over the curry and cook for another 10 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or bread.
