Sakha Tukhum Korma (yakutian Lamb Korma)
Sakha Tukhum Korma, also known as Yakutian Lamb Korma, is a traditional dish from the Sakha Republic in Russia. This hearty and flavorful korma is made with tender lamb, aromatic spices, and rich yogurt, creating a delicious and comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 500g lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and lamb cubes to the pot. Cook until the lamb is browned on all sides.
- Stir in the ground cumin, ground coriander, ground turmeric, and chili powder. Cook for 2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Pour in the plain yogurt and stir to combine with the lamb and spices. Season with salt to taste.
- Cover the pot and simmer the korma for 45-50 minutes, or until the lamb is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves before serving.
