Saladi Ya Pweza (zanzibar Octopus Salad)
Saladi ya Pweza, also known as Zanzibar Octopus Salad, is a popular dish in Tanzanian cuisine. This refreshing and flavorful salad is perfect for a light lunch or as a starter for a special meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs octopus, cleaned and tenderized
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 cucumber, peeled and diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped
- Juice of 2 limes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- In a large pot of boiling water, cook the octopus for 30 minutes or until tender. Drain and let it cool.
- Cut the octopus into bite-sized pieces and place in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the red onion, tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, cilantro, and mint to the bowl with the octopus.
- Drizzle with olive oil and lime juice, then season with salt and pepper. Toss gently to combine.
- Refrigerate the salad for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
