Saluf (yemenite Spiced Beef And Potato Pie)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 package of store-bought pie crust (or homemade if preferred)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  3. Stir in the diced potatoes, ground cumin, turmeric, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Line a pie dish with one of the pie crusts. Pour the beef and potato mixture into the pie crust.
  6. Place the second pie crust on top of the filling and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  7. Make a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
  8. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
